Training for Individual Support (Disability Support)

This free face-to-face course is designed for people who are interested in becoming disability support workers. Our tailored training focuses on physical assistance, emotional support, and personal care for individuals with disabilities. Throughout this course, you will be provided with ongoing support from our dedicated, highly experienced trainers.


The Australian Governments Job Outlook service states that the disability sector is one of the largest and fastest growing industries, approximately employing 180,000 aged and disability carers. With these numbers set to grow over the coming years, skilled support professionals will become more important than ever before. This course is offered in a few areas throughout New South Wales, to coincide with the ongoing shortage of trained disability workers in these areas.


This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

Monday 24/05 - Tuesday 25/05

This 2-day face-to-face course is hosted by breakthru. The theory training will be conducted at Western Plains Cultural Centre, Dubbo and the practical component will be undertaken at breakthru, Dubbo.





Wednesday 26/05 - Friday 28/05

This 2.5-day face-to-face course is hosted in partnership by LiveBetter and breakthru. The theory training and practical component will be undertaken at LiveBetter, Orange.





Monday 24/05 - Wednesday 26/05.

This 2.5-day face-to-face course is hosted by breakthru. The theory training will be conducted at Lions Club, Parramatta and the practical component will be undertaken at breakthru, Parramatta.

Credit transfer for two units of competency if you wish to complete the whole CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support.

Support community participation and social inclusion

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with supporting people with disability in community participation and social inclusion using a person-centred approach.


This involves enabling people to make choices to maximise their participation in various community settings, functions and activities to enhance psychosocial well-being and lifestyle in accordance with the person’s needs and preferences.

Course Content


Online Delivery

This unit can be accessed anywhere in Australia using our online Learning Management System (LMS).


All students learning by distance will have access to a dedicated trainer to assist with any questions or concerns.

Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability


This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to facilitate the empowerment of people with disability to deliver rights-based services using a person-centred approach.

Eligibility & Prerequisites


To be eligible for this training program, you must meet all of the below entry requirements:

  • You must be aged 15 years or older

  • no longer at school

  • living or working in NSW

  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen

You must also meet any one of the following criteria:

  • A young person aged 16 to 24 at commencement of training, regardless of employment status, including Year 12 School leavers.

    • People aged 16 years old are eligible if they enrol in a skilling for recovery full or part qualification from 26 April 2021 to 30 September 2021. 

  • A person who is a recipient of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit (and their dependants)

  • An unemployed person

  • An unemployed person who is expected to become unemployed who falls into one of the following four categories: 

    1. Stood down / furloughed employee

    2. Person who has been employed for 6 months or less

    3. Low skilled/unskilled employee

    4. Workers in declining industries

You will also be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment conducted by a breakthru staff member, which includes a written test and interview to complete the verbal component of the test.


LLN assessment assists breakthru to determine whether you have LLN skills at a level suited to the course requirements as well as to determine the level of support required.

You will only be required to bring a pen, notepad, and ID to this class.
