We are thrilled to announce that, at the NSW Training Awards for the South-West Sydney region, our very own trainer, Gil Sabarre, was awarded the prestigious Ken Downie Award for his exceptional commitment to Vocational Education and Training (VET).
“I love training for the fact that I can see the immediate impact on my students’ lives and interests and willingness to learn. All throughout my teaching career, I’ve always put in one hundred percent, sometimes more. I strongly believe that our achievements, our results, and our good deeds speak loudly,” says Gil. “This is a very humbling experience. I never expected such recognition. Education is a teacher’s legacy. I hope to continue to make little changes to people’s lives.”
The Ken Downie Award is a mark of distinction; given to trainers who demonstrate a consistent and unparalleled dedication to education and training. For those of us who have had the privilege of working alongside Gil, this recognition comes as no surprise.
“I have had the honour of working with Gil for a number of years,” says Breakthru College’s National Training Manager, Isabelle Durkin. “This award truly reflects Gil’s dedication and the positive impact he’s had on our students and colleagues in the disability and aged care industries. His passion for nurturing talent and helping others grow is truly inspiring. Gil’s influence reaches far beyond the classroom, earning him respect and admiration from everyone he works with.”
The impact of Gil’s work is evident in the praise of his students. Determined to turn potential into achievement, Gil is known for his ability to inspire and motivate. His classroom is a dynamic space where learning is an enjoyable experience.
“I’m very thankful for the things that Gil teaches us. He’s very respectful,” says student Shuhong Shan. “He tells us that we’ll get that job, that we can change our lives if we want.”
Another one of Gil’s students, Wenqian Cen, agrees. “I feel honoured that he is our teacher. He is a leader in clearing the fog of the future and illuminating spiritual growth.”
“It was always fun to come to class,” says Young Joo Lee. “He made the class so easy for the people who have English as a second language.”
Gil’s award is not just a recognition of past accomplishments, but a promise of the potential that lies ahead. His passion for education continues to inspire us all, reminding us of the profound impact one dedicated individual can make.
“Congratulations, Gil, on this well-deserved achievement!” says Isabelle. “We’re so fortunate to have such a passionate professional on our team at Breakthru College.”
