Age Care Training Through Breakthru College
At Breakthru College, we offer numerous courses both online and in-person at locations including periodically in Cairns at our Breakthru Cairns office location in Parramatta Park. This variety of training opportunities is tailored to meet a range of career objectives and anticipated roles. When it comes to aged care, sitting in a classroom isn’t going to teach you everything you need to know. That’s why our courses carefully balance practical abilities and experience with theoretical understanding, including knowledge of procedures as well as proficiency in personal care.
The practical side of your learning will include work placements, which facilitate hands-on learning and experience. Work placement is a compulsory unit for our courses, and while we do not guarantee or directly assist you with securing work placements, we will guide you in the right direction to ensure you can find a suitable placement for your studies.
During your placement, you will receive guidance and feedback from experienced aged care staff, all while gaining a greater understanding of what it means to be a support worker. You have the option of either face-to-face when available, or online classes, each delivered by an exceptional team of skilled trainers.

The Aged Care Sector in the Cairns Region
Much like the rest of Australia, Cairns is seeing a dire need for more care workers.
Across the nation, there are thousands of people who want to remain living independently but need some extra support to make it happen. Remaining at home is important for so many people, offering crucial autonomy and a sense of dignity. Aged care workers help turn this preference into a reality through a range of both long and short-term support plans.
This need for support is only growing. Between 2019 and 2020 alone, over a million Australians received care. This statistic highlights a significant population of elderly people throughout the country. As further evidence, during this time 840,000 individuals benefitted from the Commonwealth Home Support Program. In contrast, this program employed just 76,096 employees. With about 245,000 people living permanently in residential aged care facilities, there is a definite demand for support workers that is only growing.
