Why investing in training matters

Australia’s aged care sector is undergoing significant reform, with a focus on raising care standards, improving safety, and enhancing the experience of older people and their families.

These changes come at a time when the workforce faces real challenges. The Aged Care Workforce Census Report shows that nearly 20% of staff have less than one year of experience, over 60% of residential providers struggle to recruit qualified personal care workers, and a growing proportion of the workforce requires upskilling to meet increasingly complex clinical and resident care needs.

The Aged Care Quality Standards, strengthened in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, set clear expectations for person-centred care, dignity, and choice. Meeting these standards requires a skilled, confident workforce capable of delivering consistent, high-quality services.

At the same time, reforms such as mandatory care minutes, increased scrutiny of medication management, and greater transparency in quality reporting make investing in workforce development essential for providers to keep pace with evolving requirements.

At Breakthru College, we provide training built on legislation, aged care requirements, and best practice.

What quality training achieves:

  • Improves care outcomes and builds trust with residents and families
  • Reduces risk and ensures compliance with strengthened standards and regulations
  • Retains skilled staff by investing in their growth and professional development
  • Strengthens organisational resilience in a rapidly changing environment
  • Supports a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
