Why training matters

Australia is facing an unprecedented demand for quality mental health support.

Services across the country are being asked to do more with less, and the message from recent reviews such as the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System and the Productivity Commission’s Inquiry into Mental Health, have made priorities are clear:

  • Standards and quality of care must continue to improve
  • Trauma-informed, person-led practice needs to be embedded at every level
  • Workforce capability and staff retention are critical to sustainability
  • Care must be culturally safe and inclusive for all communities

At Breakthru College, we see these priorities not as checklists, but as opportunities to strengthen the sector. Our training is designed to help services translate these national goals into everyday practice - equipping staff with the skills, confidence, and resilience to deliver safe, person-centred care that truly meets the needs of clients and communities.

Growing complexity in mental health services

The mental health sector is more overwhelmed than ever before. Client needs are increasingly complex, dual diagnoses are common, and services are under constant pressure to meet rising demand, as well as expectations for accountability, documentation, and evidence-based practice.

Why training is essential

In this environment, training is one of the most powerful tools services can invest in. The right programs ensure staff feel equipped and confident to:

  • Work effectively with complex client presentations, including dual diagnoses
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based, person-centred care
  • Meet compliance and documentation requirements with confidence
  • Build resilience and sustain their practice in a demanding sector
