Mental health underpins how we think, work and relate to others, yet close to half of all Australians are expected to encounter mental health issues in their lives.
Left unaddressed, mental health issues can lead to serious outcomes like job loss, relationship breakdowns, homelessness, and physical illness.
With demand for mental health services rising, there’s an urgent need for more trained professionals. In 2020, Australia had just over 62,000 registered mental health workers — not enough to meet the growing needs of our communities.
Breakthru College’s mental health courses provide the practical training and knowledge needed to begin a rewarding career in this essential sector.

Nationally recognised qualifications such as Certificate IV usually run for 12 to 24 months, depending on your mode of delivery.
While both qualifications open doors in the mental health field, they serve different purposes. The Certificate IV in Mental Health equips students with in-depth support skills, whereas the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work draws on personal lived experience to help others in similar situations.
Through supervised placements in mental health or care services, you’ll gain hands-on experience that helps bridge the gap between study and employment.
After completing a course at Breakthru College, you may be eligible to pursue further study at diploma or degree level.
To have past experience recognised, students must enrol in a qualification and complete the RPL form included in the Learner Handbook. An administration fee of $250 applies to each unit.
