A Look at the Australian Aged Care Sector – Penrith and Beyond

Across all of Australia, including Penrith and our surrounding communities, the older demographic is quickly increasing. This means that there are more ageing people than ever who are seeking to remain in the comfort and autonomy of independent living. Without more skilled care workers stepping into the aged care industry, we may not be able to provide much-needed support to those who need it most.

Within aged care services there are both long and short-term types of support, which may take place within an individual’s home or within a residential care facility. Both can be immensely beneficial to both the ageing individuals and their loved ones. Between 2019 and 2020 alone, over a million people throughout Australia received care – including almost 840,000 individuals benefitting from the Commonwealth Home Support Program and roughly 245,000 as permanent residents in aged care facilities.

In contrast, the Commonwealth Home Support Program employed just 76,096 workers in 2020, while the Residential Aged Care sector had 277,671 workers. These statistics underline a clear demand for more aged care support workers in regions like Penrith – and you could very well be just the person to support and enrich your local community with a new career in aged care.
