A career in Allied Health Assistance

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide therapeutic and program related support to allied health professionals. The worker is required to conduct therapeutic and program related activities under the guidance of an allied health professional. Supervision may be direct, indirect or remote and must occur within organisation requirements.

The worker is required to identify client circumstances that need additional input from the allied health professional. The worker may be engaged to work in a specialty area or work generically across the organisation in delivery of allied health assistance services. The worker, in conjunction with the allied health professional, may have responsibility for supervising other allied health assistance workers.

Please note that students are strongly encouraged to contact a host organisation and arrange their work placement as early as possible.

In the event that students are not able to secure their own work placement, please contact breakthru College so that we can assist you to secure work placement.

Students will also be required to obtain a number of clearances as listed below. Please note it is the student’s responsibility to check with their work placement host organisation regarding what screening is required, as some organisations have different policies and procedures.

Students who complete this course may wish to progress to any other HLT Qualification at Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level.

Entry requirements

breakthru College has the following entry requirements:

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

You must demonstrate that you have the required level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills necessary to complete this course by undertaking a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment. Please note that our LLN assessment is conducted via our LLN Robot purchased from the Learning Resources Group.

Physical Requirements

Learners will need to have a reasonable level of fitness as the role may involve a variety of physical tasks such as providing personal care, assisting clients with mobility and supporting clients with transfers. Learners may also be required to stand or walk for long periods of time.

Resource Requirements

To effectively participate in their studies, all online learners are required to have their own laptop / tablet installed with Microsoft Office or similar. Learners are also required to have access to a stable internet connection and a computer / laptop / tablet to participate in an online LLN assessment.

breakthru College also has an option to provide physical copies of learning and assessment resources for face to face students.

Delivery and assessment

Classroom delivery 2 days a week, plus 120 hours of work placement.

breakthru College will use the following delivery methods:

Face to face classroom (theory and practical sessions) – includes classroom-based delivery for knowledge and practical teaching in a simulated environment
Self-paced study (structured and mandatory) – students are required to undertake self-study to complete a range of structured activities such as reading, research, completing case studies, and quizzes to reinforce their learning.

You will be required to complete a range of activities throughout the course depending on the requirements of each unit of competency. You will also be provided with the assessment and delivery plan at the commencement of your course which outlines the topics to be covered, duration, resources and due dates.

Online study options are also available. Please be advised that if you are enrolled in an online delivery mode, you are required to attend one of our sites for practical training and assessment in a simulated environment. Our sites are located in NSW and QLD, please reach out for more information.

If you are an existing worker in the industry, you may with permission use your workplace to conduct practical training and assessment. However, if you are a new entrant to this industry, you will be required to attend one of the sites on the scheduled dates.

Students will be provided with the following support services:

One on one support
Computer and technology support
Referral to external support services
Reasonable adjustments to training and assessments.

Funding eligibility

In New South Wales you may be eligible under this qualification for Smart & Skilled funding.

In Queensland, you may be eligible under this qualification for Skills Assure Supplier.
